I should have done it myself.

One of the biggest reasons I do my own work. I don't have a problem paying for a service, but I do have a problem paying for shitty service.

My project tomorrow is re-caulking the bathtub.....not sure what is going on with all the caulk and knobs but I like it!

Make sure when you cut the tube, you cut only the very end tip. Otherwise, you will have a mess. Use a coat hanger, or wire to puncture the seal as a nail won't be long enough to reach to the base of the spout.

Apply the bead, and smooth it down with your finger. It helps if you keep your finger damp with a wet cloth.

thanks Sman...the gawd damned taping is what took the longest. I used the green coloured masking tape(1.5 inch) that they use for painting...I kept muffing it up but finally got it all on striaght. The caulking stuff smells like something sour... the caulking gun that I used kept getting stuck but I just forced it since I only drew a fine line and then did the smoosh thing with my fingers..looks good..and clean!

The trick with caulk is a nice wet rag, that you constantly rinse.

Why the tape?

I go slow with a brush and keep a wet rag handy, works like a charm. Find a side of the brush you can lean into the cut with and go with it. I've only worked with tape a couple of times and find it's a huge time waster and often times creates more work.

are we talking about the same thing? the gooey white stuff that hardens like rubber..seals everything? just around the edges of the walls and on top the ridge of the tiles..?? the tape I used to make a channel on either sideso when I laid the bead of caulking and smoothed it with my finger, I removed the tape top and along the other edge for a nice clean edge on both sides..

I thought you were talking about taping up to paint...

What's up Kathy? Welcome.

I've been lurking around here for about a week now. I have mainly been trying to get caught up with what has been going on with everyone! Don't ask me why, but my life is rather dull right now so I don't have too much to say...now that is a first!
