So the Red Sox are buying Liverpool which is pretty weird. At least they play in the same colours.
I was gonna post this for you, but couldn't be bothered to search for this thread.
Anyway, this now means some Brits can think of the Yankees as the evil empire...a nice reversal since the 1700s.

If I liked baseball I'd be a Yankees fan, so it's lucky I don't. I have mixed feelings about this - the current Yank owners suck beyond suck, clearly only care about cash and couldn't care less about football. Liverpool desperately need to be owned by someone else, but another American......? Man Utd are arguably doing even worse with their Yank owners, so I'm dubious. But fingers crossed....
Boston didn't win a world Series for most of the 20th century, and have two in the 21st, so I'd say they're good owners, all things considered.

I HATE that all (non-national) soccer jerseys are basically advertisements, rather than team names/logos. I am consistently amazed when i see someone wearing one of these walking advertisements. How best to show your support of Arsenal...why, "FLY [FUCKING] EMIRATES" of course! Then, were you to buy a jersey, you are still paying $80-150. Wait a minute! Presumably the club got a lot of money for plastering that advertisement on everything they sell, so why doesn't that advertising dollar (or pound) subsidize the cost of the jersey? Shouldn't Emirates be sending a check for £20 to every fan who buys the jersey? I can only imagine that, each and every year, buying the new jersey with the new advertising must be akin to women who carry a coach purse, plastered with little "C"s, rather than an actual attractive and appealing look. The entire purpose of such a thing is to say "Look...I can afford to spend way too much on my purse...can you?" With these jerseys it must be the same. Can a fan buy a "throwback" jersey, to a time when a company he preferred more was plastered on the front? Can you imagine shelling out $150 for a jersey that said "Enron" or "BP"? Alright.

WC 2018 to Russia and not England. Disappointed but not totally surprised
WC 2022 to Qatar instead of US or Australia? Insane
We were going to get it in 2022, but then WIkileaks leaked that we, as a country, don't really like the sport. This then threatened our diplomatic efforts.

I've been waiting for this thread to pop up again so that I could post this random thought:

This post goes back awhile but everything the Gillette's have owned, has turned to shit. The only teams doing well that he has a stake in are those that he cannot have a controlling interest. They killed Liverpool Football Club, Richard Petty Motor Sports, Ray Evernham Motor Sports, Yates Racing (& almost kept him out of the sport period), He almost tried to control many Nascar teams through the back door and a connection with Rouch/Fenway. Montreal Canadians until they sold to the Molson's. He's a Boston elitist douche bag that has put a lot of people out of work and ruined friendships etc. He should stick to canned meats.
