One of the things I loved about living in New Orleans were the legendary musical families who lived there. You could guarantee that at any festival a Marsalis would represent.

I was listening to a Jazz show about a year ago. The announcer was talking about how the popularity of jazz had become so diminished that the last show he saw only had about 8 people in the audience. He said (paraphrasing) "You've got some of the best jazz musicians in the world and less than 10 people showed up to see them" I guess that's good in a way if you're an audience member...

That's very sad. Posted Image I think a lot of that is people don't really study or appreciate music any more though. Kids study the piano so they can learn a favorite movie theme or pop song. Very few people around here have music blaring like we do. I can't tell you how many times I have other kids in my car and have to turn off the music because they complain, and we listen to absolutely every type of genre, so it's not as if they just don't like my African shit! I'm glad my kids are big music fans. I did one thing right.

A couple of years ago, congress declared Kind Of Blue a national treasure.

Sad, isnt it?
I exposed my daughter to EVERYTHING at a very early age, we always have music playing, (or I'm playing) I cannot imagine a world where music does not exist.
