Hybrids make sense. Electric-only does not for several reasons.

Why don't you like electric only?

I'm a car guy. Tesla seems to be a vehicle for tech peeps. To me there is a distinct difference between these two groups.

Also the reliability sucks (nearly dead last), as does service if there is an issue. I also don't think much of their interior/exterior design. I'm sure the driving experience is pretty cool though.

I have seen new electric car companies entering the market that are pretty dope though. The Lucid Air is a good example.

Compared to gas vehicles the electric has many disadvantages. Where I live there are hurricanes and we sometimes lose power for days. Our electric grid is not able to charge an equivalent fleet to current gas vehicles. The power to charge and all electricity use is still predominately generated by "fossil" fuels. Rare earth minerals needed for the batteries is a big issue. It takes a while to charge vs. filling the tank. We already have gas stations all over the place. Red Barchetta shouldn't be prophesy.

So, essentially it’s just a problem with the infrastructure; not the vehicle, itself.

My problem with EVs is their short range capacity, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to mitigate the problem short of the development of super conducting battery tech, so not anytime time soon.

That said, they’re great for most households, and local freight delivery. They are also one tool that can greatly decrease CO2 production.

An electric vehicle is fine if you are ok with all the trade-offs and it works for you. I am not. And I don't want government to force them on people. Choice is fine.

I think they would be great for a local driving car. For long trips they don't make sense yet to me. I'm sure the battery capacity issue will be improved upon as well as infrastructure.

I watched a video of the Rivian truck (and just saw one a few days ago on the road) and it could tow a large trailer up a mountain pass. However by the time it did that, it was almost out of range, haha. So it's a great accomplishment to build such a thing, but IMO the gas or diesel truck would still be the go-to for towing at this time. You'd take the Rivian, go 200 miles and then have to recharge. I guess at least you'd have your travel trailer with you so you can take a nap.
