Well?

I'm starting to view him as right of center. He sure as shit isn't a radical liberal. Posted Image

I don't know that he fits in any of the above. Conservatism is so defined anymore by their social elements, and he doesn't fit there at all. On the other hand, he's much more capitalist than a good deal of the left, including the liberal base. Most liberals would have sought a more universal, gov't run healthcare system, a la Canada. Instead, we get a privately run system, with increased regulation. So, while he takes the regulatory line of the left, he takes the ownership line of the right. In other words, definitely NOT a socialist/communist. I would describe him as a liberal who seeks solutions through maintaining capitalist private ownership, with added regulation. There are exceptions, such as the GM bailout, but there's a difference I think between crisis policy and long term policy. His long term views are NOT about gov't ownership.

I think of him as a pragmatist but I'm not sure if that's the right word. He wants to bring everyone to the table to glean all their ideas and theories and then make the best compromise that gives everyone a piece of what they want, but no one person gets everything they want.

Just to highlight this point, I had a student who is somewhat liberal, but went to a tea party meeting, just to see and be open minded. He asked the speaker, a state representative, what was wrong with moderates, and got a 20 minute lecture on why compromise is a bad thing. If that doesn't speak to the nature of the right over the last few years, I don't know what does.

It sure does highlight it. My representative is a Tea Partier, too, and he's the same way. Thinks compromise is a dirty word. What a bunch of selfish, self-centered pricks they are!!!!!!

His ideological inclinations are liberal but, as far as being a politician, he's about getting things done. He was always pragmatic and about getting things done.

I think so too. And I like him. I can't categorize him, so I didn't vote. I think he's more liberal, definitely. Seems like he tries to see all sides and make the best decision possible, and I trust him for that. .

That's funny considering they expect the left to compromise on everything they believe in & switch to the dark side. Twits.
