I'm not a Queensryche fan, but Isn't there some big issue going on with him right now, where he's out of the band? Hasn't he been in it since the beginning, for like 30 years or so? wtf? Is he a jerk or something?

He has a point, American audiences do suck for the most part. I believe the band released a press statement this week announcing he had left and his replacement.

His replacement sounds just like him, rather amazing.

Once that one guitar player that actually knew how to write songs left in the late 90s, that band was finished.

Why do you read that kind of crap, Art? Seriously, I don't get it.

Oh was that the turning point? Because their first few albums were ace.

Grunge came along and they tried to modernize their sound with mixed results. Chris DeGarmo bailed shortly thereafter. He was the creative force of the band. They soldiered on but subsequent CDs were lackluster. They did a sequel to Operation Mindcrime which didn't really work. I haven't heard their last one or two releases but the covers cd they put out was decent.

It is obvious the band was going nowhere and Geoff Tate is now doing a solo project. The remaining band members are in nostalgia act mode. They have a new singer that sounds like the old and have vowed to only perform material from their first five records, the material that will actually put people in the seats at this point.

Only a true reunion with DeGarmo would be worth hearing and he appears to have left his rock and roll life behind.

Apparently DeGarmo came back to work on Tribe, which sounds pretty damn good from what I can hear. I'm working on getting the whole album now.

I forgot about that. Did he do the whole cd or just a couple songs?

I think a few, but not he whole thing? (Too lazy to look back up.)

I got the CD last night if you want it. I've listened to it once last night and liked it a lot.

I think I have that cd. I have most of theirs except the last one or two. Here is Geoff Tate's side of things:

I'm a 25 percent holder in our companies. I think it's just business in their minds. Cut me out and then split 25 percent and hire some young guy that's gonna work for a weekly wage so they make more money. It's just ridiculous.

Sounds familiar huh?

Overall an interesting interview. Hard to know if I should believe it or not, lol.

I only really like the very early material when they were more embedded in the metal scene. The later rock-oriented songs were okay, but it makes no sense to me (aside from raking in cash) why a band that can play metal well would stop playing true metal.

Aside from the fact that I don't know if Geoff Tate looks more like Ming the Merciless or Merlin these days, his voice certainly isn't what it used to be. Heard him sing Queen of the Reich lately? Sucks ass. The power is gone. That new guy sings it better, but Tate was better than him in his prime.

Speaking of aging musicians, I just saw one of those guitar sessions on Directv featuring Megadeth. Dave Mustaine looks and sounds awful. You know it pains me to say that. It was actually shocking. A couple of years ago, he was playing great and his voice sounded good. When I saw him on television tonight, his bottom lip was swollen like a Ballpark frank. His entire face and body looked like a river corpse. He sounded like shit on vocals, and he wasn't even playing a lot of the leads he used to play on the songs they aired. Also, during the interview, he seemed as though he was on medication. Sad.

^^^

I feel guilty for saying that mean stuff about Dave Mustaine. I'd probably still be willing to put on the Killing Is My Business album and fuck him. He has given me a lot of listening pleasure over the years, so I'd throw an old dog a bone. He still does play the guitar very well.
