I personally think the DNC should make this their big issue for the mid terms. And they should stick with it in 2016.
I'd also recommend doubling down on amnesty.

Open Carry Texas, stand around with their guns and taunt police, who are trying to figure out what is going on. You can start around 5 mins or so...
