As another single mother on Sumner Road decked her row-house stoop with Christmas lights and a plastic Santa, Ms. Hawkins recalled that her middle child’s father has never spent a holiday or birthday with her. In her neighborhood in Southeast Washington, 1 in 10 children live with both parents, and 84 percent live with only their mother.

Check out the interactive map at the bottom. In NOLA the fatherless areas track closely to the most low-income and higher crime areas.
I think this is going to get worse and I think it is a negative trend.

been watching this topic. Didn't think it would get much feedback. It's something that can be blamed on the individual, so it's not going to get much conversation here. This is something I've advocated as the core of our issues for a long time. But not too many want to address it.
Perhaps the lack of comments means total agreement?

I think you make some good points. There are plenty people who are single parents and do a good job with it. But if you have multiple children by different fathers who are not involved with their children, that can't be ideal for the children or society.

Oh. Sorry about that, I was joking when I wrote that. I gotta remember to write lol or something afterward. At the time Flagg commented there were no comments. Both your and my comments were in response to Flagg.

My personal opinion is that in the 50's and 60's there was a lot of shame associated with pregnancy among young teens, and that has now swung too far in the opposite direction where people don't want to make disparaging remarks for fear of hurting feelings, but the reality is the only way to reduce numbers is to be blunt and remind younger teens that single parenting is not for sissies, is not a romantic Lifetime movie, and for fucks sake teach real sex ed in schools.

Single mothers are also bad because they cost the tax payers money and put a drain on society.
Sex education only gives crazy horny kids permission to screw one another.
Abortions are even worse and you'll probably go to hell for murder.
Any questions?
