I was motivated last night and reopened the forum (allow registration.) I updated the spam monitoring service as well.

 

If you know anybody who would like to visit, we're open for business again.

I closed registration because spam was outrageous. I currently have 1700 accounts awaiting activation...all spam.

Yeah forum spam got out of control a few years ago. My site had to deal with that shit too. So did many others. Spam literally destroyed the Elastica forum. The admin had it on a 90s forum design, couldn't update it properly, so he closed registration down completely but as old members stopped posting no new ones could take their place. Even he left. 

 

You might start getting some new members again. I've seen guests reading discussions here.

I think part of the problem is how old the database is for this site. There are companies that can take this old database and have it reflow into the latest version of whatever board software you want.

I think I did that a few years back and everybody still had to end up recreating new logins etc. It was messy.
