It's very windy and cold here too. Maybe hell is freezing over?

The rain came suddenly last night with huge gusts of wind. Brought in a cold front which I love.

In other news my throat hurts, my head hurts and I'm in a foul mood. :)

Anyone watching the NRA press conference? It's making me feel a bit homicidal.

According to the headlines, he's blaming Hollywood, music, media, and our culture of violence. Now, I can accept that all of those things contribute to a potentially glorified violence in our culture, but here's a question. When we say things like "Iran can't have nukes" it's because we believe that their religious CULTURE makes them more likely to use such weapons. And so we don't want them out there. If we, then, have a violent culture, shouldn't we do things to make our violence less effective? I'm not saying that's my positions, but it's the logical outcome of his stance that this is a cultural issue. If we are simply a violent people...maybe we shouldn't have quite so many guns? In the same sense, I'd say that the recovering addicts in AA probably shouldn't have massive liquor cabinets, fully stocked. Anyway, the NRA went over the cliff long ago.

I don't understand the disconnect. Yes all these factors undoubtedly play some role in our violent society. In the end it still comes down to one thing, the easy access we have to guns after a lifetime of being inundated with violence. If you remove that option then then the ability to snuff out strangers 20 at a time goes away rather quickly.

I understand the disconnect. It's fake and manufactured, blame the things you don't like, and divert from the things you do. There doesn't have to be any logic as long as your target audience shares your likes/dislikes.

My mother in law is insisting that that my wife's ex husband (divorced for over 15 years now) be over for Christmas dinner....AGAIN.

Help me understand this.

Every year with this shit. Even if I weren't in the picture, Neen hates her ex, thinks he's a dick.

Your MIL in law doesn't respect you & she's testing you & your wife. It needs to stop.

He doesn't. She feels that she must invite him because "He'll be alone."

It's always her idea. She says we should bury the hatchet.

I asked if I could bring my ex girlfriends over. She said it's not the same thing because of the children. The children who are now legal adults, one old enough to drink.

I think this is the 3rd or 4th Christmas she's tried to push this idea on us. It's one of the few things I've ever seen Neen shut her Mom down on.

I think it's disrespectful to our marriage and to her own daughter.

It's always something with her. Thankfully this will be our last Christmas together since I'm moving. I was actually going to ditch but her Aunt and Uncle from Miami will be up so I'll go now.

That's just craziness. I can see why you don't like your MIL.
