Nope, Toronto is the closest for me, followed by Philly.  I don't think I'll be making that trip.

I hate these small tours that old bands do.  I say hit every city for small crowds and $20 tickets, or GTFO!  I wish...

But my ass is too old to trek up to Chicago for shows all the time. I have a job, I have kids.  It's hard to justify canceling class when I get 14 weeks off during the summer, and I certainly don't have "vacation days" given the nature of my employment.

Saw Loretta last at The Palace in Louisville, last night. She still has it, and put on a great show, but she twice stopped the show because of a buzzing sound she heard. No one else, at the venue or in the band, heard the noise, but she made all the musicians play individually while trying to isolate what no one else could hear. Curious.

She mentioned that she had recently had surgery. That left me wondering if the what she was hearing was some side effect of some medication she was taking???

Of course she played some of her biggest hits like "Coal Miner's Daughter", "Fist City", "One's on The Way", "Don't Come Home A Drinkin", ect, but she also did "Everyone Wants To Go To Heaven" from the album released last year, and "She's Got All It Takes, And She'll Take You For All You Got" from an album of all original material to be released later this year.

This lady is an icon, and at 84 still sounds pretty damn good. Even if old school country isn't your thing, go see this living legend perform if you get the chance. She is a delight!

Agreed.  Country before it was just slightly twangy pop.

Who gets the blame for taking country in that direction? Garth? Shania? Something before them?

I remember back in junior high in the 80s some girls at my school listened to country....which meant I had to listen to some of it. Randy Travis, Dwight Yoakam, Alan Jackson, Tanya Tucker, etc. It was pretty damn good.

Garth, to some extent.  Remember how popular his stuff was?  Can't be that popular if it's straight country.  And then Billy Ray Cyrus.  As with all transitional acts, there's as much if not more country in Garth than pop, just as Sabbath has as much blues rock as metal.  But then someone else takes it further and eventually you have Taylor Swift, who seems like 90% pop 10% country (100% shit...ha).

Maiden last night.  As opposed to Petty, was not drunk nor did my "girl" (aka Mrs. freedom78) attend.  However, I echo my earlier sentiments.  In the wake of today's news that Russia may have bombed that sexually frustrated douchebag Abu Bakr al Baghdadi Shitstain, let me make quick note of the fact that I laugh at their silly black flags.  Metal heads have been wearing black long before ISIS was shat out like a massive post-Thanksgiving dump.  And we have Eddie.  They can never win.

Oh...Maiden killed as always.  Those guys have more energy pound for pound (year for year?) than any band I"ve seen.
