Sister burn the temple
And stand beneath the moon
The sound of the ocean is dead
It's just the echo of the blood in your head

I am still in shock over this. I consider it the greatest musical tragedy in my life. Axl and Cornell my two favorites and in many ways I ranked Cornell higher than him.

One of the greatest voices in history has been silenced forever. While we knew how amazing he was, the world will never know what it really lost. There was still so much potential. More Soundgarden albums, potential Audioslave reunion/album, more solo albums/tours, and as he got into his 60s, I could easily picture him going the Rod Stewart route and touring doing nothing but cover songs, which he excelled at.

Its surreal.

Did you read the new RS article? Made it even more tragic. He was working on a solo covers album, Soundgarden album, had talked to Morello about doing Audioslave again, and Paul Buckmaster said Cornell was interested in adding orchestra arrangements to Soundgarden's music. Can you imagine that? Would've been a career killer in the 90s but it really shows that Soundgarden had no limits in the directions they could go.

When I read that, it made me realize why he had hit the pause button on finishing up the Soundgarden album. They were going to take it in a completely new direction and the demos recorded last year weren't up to snuff in that regard. Its why Cornell wasn't positive in recent months when asked about the album yet Thayil claimed progress was being made.
