New STAR WARS better than previous 2. JJ was able to land this thing considering what Rian gave him to work with. Whole Disney Trilogy is kind of meh. Poor planning, 2 very different directors, and death of Carrie Fisher to blame.
Haven't seen it yet, but I agree with the poor planning. Did no one think to bring in a group of dedicated nerds, give them the three film story,and let them nit pick it to death?
Then again, as much as this series has been the center of nerd-dom for 40 years, I don't know how it could have possibly satisfied.
Finally saw new Star Wars this week. Thought it was better than the first two of the new trilogy.
My one big complaint across all three films is the needless complexity of plot lines. If you think about the original trilogy, they all feature exactly three locations...some combo of Tatooine, Dagobah, the Death Star, with Endor, Yavin, Hoth, and Lando's floating city also making appearances. New films feel like they bounce around a lot more. No where was this more unnecessarily apparent than in Episode VIII when they have this random side mission to get Johnny Depp's Samoan lawyer from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas to come and break into Snoke's ship. That side adventure, for my money, was the single worst and most pointless part of this new trilogy. Wouldn't it be better, easier, and more elegant story telling for the resistance to simply have a guy like that in their ranks? Do we really need a chase scene in a casino?
Think about the first film, Episode IV. Instead of a complicated plot addition where they sneak off and steal the death star plans, they simply introduce them...many fuckin' Bothans died to get these! It's not a problem that we didn't see it, because until that point the entire film has been following Luke from Tatooine to the Death Star to Yavin. Only then are we introduced to the larger rebellion, and it's FINE, not to mention beloved.
Without spoiling, in case someone hasn't seen it, I will say that the final film did some incredible things in terms of its battle/fight scenes. But simplify the plot and it could be improved.
Also...the movie theatre played this in its entirety before the film:

It shows that Disney thought they could just collect money with anything having STAR WARS in the title. They really should have handled the material better. Take a page from the MARVEL movies. The two directors they used could not have been more different, and it was obvious they had no story figured out before hand for all three new films.
You should be ashamed. This is probably the worst movie I've ever seen.
Tell me again how much you loved it! Better yet, let's go see it together. Get yer passport! Better yet, I'll get mine, we'll do Episode IX then a four day bender at the Windsor Ballet.
Finally watched the last movie today - its definitely flawed but I certainly enjoyed the defeat of the evil emperor in these times. The Mandalorian is better though.
