Congrats again...now get back to work!
Shhhhhhh.... I still have three days left.
@Lynn
We spent the first four days in London, taking in some of the museums and staying in a very nice hotel. Then we had a small break in the countryside for a fabulous meal at a place called The Waterside Inn, which has incredible views over the river from the dining room (and from the terrace attached to our room). Then back to London to catch a show in the West End and finally onwards to The Dorchester (v.famous and luxurious and painfully expensive hotel) for the final night and another three-Michelin star meal (besides the actual wedding, this was probably the best day I've ever had).
Just off now to my parents to pick up all the wedding gifts they've been keeping for us. Very exciting!

Apparently, large riots are breaking out in London, and there are reports of it spreading to other cities???
That's really sad and crazy, what a crowd out of control can do. Feel badly for the people who live in that area.
Yeah, it's dominating the news over here. No sign of it stopping yet. The prime minister, who came back early from holiday, just gave a special press conference revealing all police leave has been cancelled and the number of policemen on the streets tonight (already much higher than usual) is going to be trebled.
Personally, I blame the media for being irresponsible. If they hadn't made such a big thing about the first night's unrest (which wasn't exactly crazy), I doubt very much we'd be seeing any of this now. It's just a bunch of dickheads copying what they've seen on TV.

26? You're one of the young ones around here then eh?
Found out that we've been given a week's extension for a report I originally had to have done by Thursday for uni. Won't be working on that for a couple of days now.
I always loved extensions. I'd still do all the work in one sleep-deprived night, it would just give me the opportunity to put it off for a couple of weeks.
I think that's why I left uni with a shit grade...

It's my birthday today. Got the day off work, but nobody to spend it with, so I went out to a new restaurant on my own and got really, really drunk. There are worse ways to spend a birthday.
Happy birthday mister. How old are you now? Ready to retire?
God, I wish. 26.
The main advantage of getting drunk at lunchtime is that I've got time to get drunk all over again this evening. Good times.
Thanks for the kind wishes!

The Grand National today, the day when people who never bet - like me - decide to go ahead and do it. Don't Push It to win!
My eight-year barren streak continues. Had Oscar Time each way, but didn't win enough to cover even half of my bets.
My brother on the hand won £120. Lucky bastard.

Adaddon: On the Foodnet Work's "worst cook in world" series they posted some videos about knife skills. As old as I am, I didn't know the proper way to dice an onion or slice carrots. Forget Juliann cuts....I'd lose my fingers. After watching those videos, though, I'm lusting after a good set of knifes as well.
Anthony Bourdain had a good bit about knives in Kitchen Confidential. He basically said big knife sets are pointless, and all you really need to do is invest in a good cook's knife - because you can do pretty much everything with that. If you do some filleting/butchery, then get the appropriate boning knife too. But that's pretty much all you need.
After some reading around and pricing up, I'm hoping to get this:

Would love to see a different side to the US. Have done New York and Washington, but somewhere like Maui or the deep south - places which seem to have a more distinct personality - would be cool.
You mean you want to go places with FRIENDLY people?
Hawaii is a trip. Tons of Japanese tourists at Pearl Harbor...always seemed weird to me. But it's all fuckin' gorgeous.
New York wasn't bad - if you compare it with London. Washington was actually really friendly, but that might just be because we shared a hotel with some national congress of gospel singers - every one of them was awesome. But yeah, in the friendliness stakes, none of them held a candle to the folk we met in Canada on the same trip.
Zimbo - definitely plan to go to South Africa one day and do a bit of a wine tour. The country's a big favourite among my fiance's family. 2021 might be a good year for it - can combine it with a Lions Tour, which is something I've always wanted to do.
