I know people talk about reparations for slavery sometimes, but shouldn't we also be open to reparations for gender non-conforming folks, for the abuse they've suffered?

This week we drop the "mother of all bombs" in Afghanistan and then sign legislation defunding planned parenthood because they may perform abortions sometimes. Thank goodness the GOP is consistent in what they believe.

Hopefully Trump will be gone before he gets us all killed. I see trouble on the horizon.
Except that he's about the bomb NK, too. That won't go well.

Anybody following this "yes means yes" stuff out of California and other places?
I tend to agree. I don't see how any of this helps stop rapists, such as those who don't care about a vocal "no", who drug women, etc. I can't imagine any rapist being deterred by the lack of verbal consent, or caring about the definition of consent. Those sorts of rapes, which we all abhor, are completely unaffected by a law like this, because the lack of consent is already obvious.
What a law like this does is to take areas where physical acts progress (i.e. "foreplay") toward sex and treat that as if it's a rape, because it relies on physical cues and physical enthusiasm, rather than a vocal "yes, I'm ready to proceed from kissing to groping at which point I will rationally reevaluate my options", which really doesn't seem like the way sex works.
Sadly, as we have apparently had a rape on campus, my university send out an email to let everyone know, and in it it included the university's understanding of consent:
"Consent - Anyone initiating any kind of sexual contact with another person must obtain their consent. Consent is an agreement or permission expressed through affirmative, voluntary words or actions that are mutually understandable to all parties involved. Consent cannot be given by someone who is incapacitated by the use of alcohol and/or drugs."
None of that nonsense we're seeing in other places. See, not every university has gone insane.
