Has anyone seen "Love In The Time Of HIV"? It's a great series of documentaries, and one is available on Comcast on-demand at the moment. Check it out. Here are some snippets

I knew a drug councilor years ago who was HIV positive. He had been married, using condoms and still his wife became pregnant. Despite getting pregnant, she did not contract HIV. I also know a couple of guys who have had it for well over 20 yrs now, one of which was part of the original study group in SF in the 80's. I've also known at least a dozen men who died in the early to mid 90's from AIDS.
It's the only disease I recall seeing where some are victims and the others deserve it from their wicked ways.

It's a really complicated disease, socially any way. When we lived in New Orleans we knew a lot of people who were +ve. The city of sex, drugs, sex, rock 'n roll, sex, and more sex. The scary thing about it in sub-Saharan Africa is that with the prevalence being so high (1:2), I'm amazed that people are still willing to take any chances. That's just insane.
