No, in seriousness, I agree with much that article has to say.  I had a student this semester, who I've had in class before.  When she started the term, I noted her new last name, as she had gotten married.  A few weeks later, the husband was dead of a heroin overdose.  She was gone a week, came back, and finished with a good grade.  I don't know that most students could have done that.  I don't know that I could have done that.  I've had students with cancer.  I've had students with physical disabilities and mental illnesses.  I've had students who've been raped.  That these students push through life's obstacles and complete a degree is impressive.

Now, as with any massive group of people, we should not be so feeble minded as to assume they're all the same.  As I've said repeatedly, the students shown in videos, crying because a building is named after Jefferson and he had slaves or demanding an exclusion of alternative ideas, is not my experience.  I have had entitled students.  They earn their grade the same as anyone else and if their sense of entitlement runs up against my grading, my grading wins every time.  I've never once had a student be so entitled that they took my grading procedures to the Dean or anything like that.  So, while the so-called "special snowflakes" undoubtedly exist, this is far from the norm.  The typical student I see is going to school and holding down a job to pay for it, because they care a lot more about student debt than about the social justice of a building's name or a statue on campus.

The irony of this, to me, is that now, as the right badgers us about how we can't just talk about a large group of people in negative ways and expect them to respond positively, that's exactly what they're doing with college students.  That's dangerous.  These students will be around to vote for a LOT longer than the groups that Democrats failed to connect with in 2016.  Dismiss them at your own peril.

Looks like Bill O'Reilly is taking some time off over the sexual harassment stuff. Some are reporting he's gone for good. Fox says not true and he'll be back.

My schadenfreude is strong here.
