Getting worse. Now seems like they hacked the voicemail of family members of soldiers who died in Iraq/Afghanistan as well as those of people who died in the 7/7 subway bombings.

Wow, News of the World closes down - score one for the people :D I'm sure it will just rebrand, probably extend The Sun to a Sunday edition, but cool anyway.

Yeah, though has been pointed out the only person not to lose their job was the editor at the time Rebekkah Brookes who is now CEO of News International or News Corp or whatever it is, and closing NOTW was a business consolidation that had been proposed before this broke. Sounds like a lot more dirt to come though, Andy Coulson who was I think, deputy editor and went on to be David Cameron's media guy later will be re-arrested tomorrow and should be in deep shit. There's a co-dependent triangle of Murdoch, Tories and police all been protecting each other - will see who far the cracks splinter out. Bring popcorn......

Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation empire could face a bill of more than $100m (£62m) if US authorities launch an investigation into corruption following allegations that the News of the World routinely made payments to police officers totalling more than £100,000.

A key US senator has called for an investigation into whether reported hacking by News Corporation targeted any US citizens.
Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller said the authorities should consider whether journalists working for the media giant had broken US law.
He warned of "serious consequences" should that be found to be the case.
