In general we tend to believe people with money are smart. I'm guilty of this too, even though I know from experience it's not true.

I watched that Hulu special about the pool boy and the Falwells. One of the things that stuck out to me was when the sister (of the pool boy) said how different all these religious people were behind closed doors. She said (paraphrasing) "Oh, I get it, it's all an act. Like showbiz, expect they use religion."

My oldest sister belongs to one of those fucked up rural Pentecostal churches. Those assholes are fucked in the head, so yeah, I believe she is absolutely serious, or means to be, but still rubs one out on occasion. Of course, it's different, for her.

 

One of my favorite past times during family gatherings is quoting Scripture that contradicts my sister's fucked up world view. I even got her to admit that, no, Jesus would not lock kids up in cages. It took a bit, but she did it.
