haha, that's how I feel often at work. I come home and am like "Shit I'm poor!" The amount of money I see out there is crazy. People buying a 2.5M condo (1,600 sq ft) just to have a place when they fly into town.

You know this guy just wished he put his money in index funds.
That’s exactly what our 2 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn was valued at last time we refinanced. Wouldn’t swap

The carpet looks like it belongs in an early 80s library.

So even if you paid cash for that, you'll have those high fees (equal to a big mortgage) that only goes up in the future.
HOA fees actually make sense to me for high-rise building maintenance. But dear lord, the ongoing cost to maintain any building to standard over time, especially one from 1989 has got to be high. I'll stay on the ground, lol.
Edit: I sold a beach condo back about 10 years ago and represented the seller. The building had 40 units, with the majority facing the gulf of Mexico. They HOA would not provide any information to me prior to the going under contract which I found suspicious. Once we were in contract, the seller ordered the resale documents and we found out the HOA only had 16k in reserves! That's only about 950k short of what they probably should have had. Some time share company had been buying units in the building and then pounding them with lawsuits, which they were clearly losing, lol. Anyway, the new buyer was immediately hit with a 4,000 fee to help pay for outside maintenance, which included repairing/repainting all balconies etc.. That shit was never going to end because there were no funds in the reserve account. He got the condo for a steal, but those "special assessments" for any work needed in the future would eliminate the great sales price. What a lesson that was. If the reserves are low, run away.

Live where it's cheap, vacation where it's pricey.
