Prince Rogers Nelson, known the world over as Prince, has died, the Associated Press reports. He was 57 years old.
The news comes less than a week after the legendary artist’s plane was forced to make an emergency landing due to his ongoing battle with the flu.
The musician’s publicist told the AP that Prince was found dead in his Paisley Park home in Chanhassen, Minn.
Prince has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and has been a household name since 1982 – following the release of his album “1999.†He has won seven Grammy Awards, as well as an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for “Purple Rain†in 1985.
He will forever be remembered for his early hits “Purple Rain,†“Let’s Go Crazy,†“Little Red Corvette,†“When Doves Cry,†and “1999.†But his career flourished far beyond the 1980s, remaining a relevant and renowned musical icon up until his death.
Only one month ago, the Minneapolis artist announced at a pop-up performance in New York City that he would be writing his memoir, which was expected to be published in 2017.
