Comet C/2007 N3, discovered in July 07 is starting to brighten as it approaches the Sun. Estimates are that it will brighten to naked eye visiblity later this month, or early next. However, the hyperbolic orbit of the comet suggests that this is the first time the comet has entered the inner Solar System, and it's interaction with the Sun might produce something spectacular. Currently, it is a binocular object. Keep your eyes open, and your fingers crossed.

It will rise early in the morning... right on the border of Libra and Scorpius.
HERE is a sky map for early Jan. With a lot of light pollution, the brightest stars on the chart will be about all you can see. The comet will appear as a fuzzy blob or star. In the city, you probably won't be able to make out the tail.
Here is to hoping for another Comet McNaught(it doesn't hurt to wish). That thing was so bright it could be seen in daylight.

You would think that with all the camera phones, small digital, small palm recorders etc, that someone could get at least one good shot of a spacecraft. Many have seen that UFO but just couldn't get the ole camera out. What about Google Earth as well???
You never ask a navy man if he'll have another drink, because it's nobody's goddamned business how much he's had already.
