821 Entertainment Group and Strike Entertainment are set to produce a biopic about country music icon Hank Williams reports Variety. Williams, who grew up dirt poor in Alabama during the Depression, skyrocketed to fame with 11 No. 1 hits, including classics "Cold, Cold Heart," "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." Williams also suffered from spina bifida, which led him to turn to alcohol and morphine for pain relief and died in 1953 at age 29. The deal includes rights to Colin Escott's biography about the singer, and use of the most memorable recordings with the co-operation of the Hank Williams estate. Marc Abraham ("Flash of Genius") will write the script and Universal gets first chance at distribution through its first-look deal with Strike.
