My sign was vandalized on two occasions, if I remember correctly. I just re-bent the metal prong and stuck it back in the ground.

The weird thing about Indiana (and I'm sure many places) is that you have really nice people who can also be very judgmental. The barber down the street who (I swear) cut a black man's hair also freely and voluntarily offered up his snow blower after a bad storm. But, I find, most people are pretty nice. I campaigned for Obama, and people would tell me that it was great I was involved in the process, and follow that by explaining why they felt he was dangerous. You have to just take the good and accept that people disagree with you about a lot of things.

I agree, I've met some of the absolute kindest, warmest people in my life since moving here. It's the racism, adult illiteracy (esp. in this county), and ignorance that I keep running into that keeps my blood moving. Until I moved to this particular place, those were things either kept very much hidden back in Seattle, or they were truly rare. It's certainly opened my eyes to different social problems and, in its own way, a differently-diverse population.

Please tell your father-in-law that I enjoyed hearing his pick up line, and hope very much that he never has had to use it.

Me too lol.

Connersville is at an unfortunate distance. It's only 2 hours from Indy to Cincy, so to be 90 mins from both implies the middle of nowhere, but not on a handy trajectory from either.

+1. You have to actually TRY to find this place...and then ask yourself "Why did I bother?"

Keep your chin up...Obama lost Fayette county by 550 votes. He lost where I live by about 30,000.

I remember that! The one cool thing about this seemingly red county/town is its (mostly) silent Dem population. We had a lot of people defacing and stealing Obama signs around the election, but people kept putting them back up.

Before Visteon told their workers to stick it and then packed up and left, this was a town firmly built on union jobs. We're still waiting to see if Carbon Motors actually gets the funding it needs to take over the Visteon plant and finally give this broken county some work. Keeping fingers crossed...

I was in my 4th grader's class this morning reading to them about the life of Harriet Tubman as they are studying abolitionists in Social Studies. One of my son's teachers, who I really like and up until now had great respect for, says "remember children most of what you read about slavery has been exaggerated over time, it wasn't as bad as it has been made out to be". To say that I was flabbergasted and angry is an understatement. There really wasn't much I could say in front of the class, but I really am outraged. Is this part and parcel of the new "blacks sold the black slaves to whites, so the whites aren't really responsible" crap. Jeezuz, I am just so mad. It's times like this I hate living in the south.

wow, that's just really screwed up. As bad as those people who pretend the concentration camps never happened.

Are they giving out teaching certificates in Creative History?

As always, I'm late to the party....I'm Rayne (rayneinspain on The Evil Forum), stuck in Indiana. Frankly wigged out to be in a state so opposed to workers' rights, women's rights, and civil rights...and so in love with ignorance. Eek.

Glad to be here Posted Image

Hey girl, it's aboutl time you showed up, we've missed you!!!! I'm right there w/ya sista in the grand ole piece of crap state wisconsin.

Like I said, I'm always late! Posted Image Between WI, MI, IN, and OH, we pretty much stand at the heart of the new Dem Revolution (hopefully), or at least a new movement for the average working citizen. Have you found out about any recall petitions heading your way?
