Trump has always played fast and loose with the rules, that's why many people like him I guess. But in this job I wonder how far he can really push it before real problems arise. 

I didn't have a huge problem with his social media presence during the actual election. He was just hammering away at CNN, Hillary, Megyn Kelly, etc.

Now its different. His ego is completely out of control and he has basically reduced himself to calling out 40 year old virgin bloggers who are troling him. If he was a GNR fan, he'd tweet a challenge to Jarmo. Its seriously at that level now.

How does he even choose which people to attack? He has to get thousands of tweets directed at him every hour. It means he actually takes the time to cherry pick some of this shit. Can someone about to step into the most powerful position in the world really have that kinda time on their hands? Can you imagine Reagan tweeting to a bunch of liberal nerds rubbing  the Iran hostage crisis in their faces and mocking Carter?!?

That's the equivalent to what's happening now. Its unreal.

He shouldn't be responding to ANY tweets. I can understand wanting to tweet official messages to followers but we may need a constitutional amendment that outlaws presidential trolling. I'm not joking either. This type of thing could easily be a national security risk.

The Secret Service is apparently going to have to rent, from him, a floor in Trump Tower for over $1M/year.  So he literally gets to make a profit off of his own security detail.  I don't know if this is unprecedented, but it's fucked up. 

That's insane. I hadn't heard that yet.

Something else unprecedented is our president elect having twitter wars with various bloggers like he's a 13 year old girl having a conniption fit. Its actually quite scary.

Internet opinion and all that, but transgendered people are estimated to be like < .1% of the population. So how does a school that probably at most has 1000 kids have 3 transgender students. Probably edgelords trying to be trendy.

I've been using duckduckgo a lot more frequently lately. Takes awhile to get used to not simply googling everything. I downloaded Brave when it was mentioned on evo but I've always been a huge fan of firefox.

Given the onslaught of lies perpetrated by Trump and the minuscule reporting of said lies, I find it ridiculous to claim the media was in the can for Hillary. Likewise the media gave him millions in air time, allowed him to call into shows, covered his rallies like he was rock start (they'd break away from important stories to cover him) etc.

 

If anything the media wanted ratings, and Trump did that, much better than Hillary could ever do. But to say the media was collectively in the Clinton camp is such utter bullshit...please. Did they all predict a Clinton win (including Fox) ? Yes, but that's hardly the same thing. 

Valid points of course but they were definitely in favor of Hillary. THey bitched continuously about Trump for months on end. Other than the email fiasco which deserved a LOT more coverage than it got, Hillary's shit didn't stink and they were ready for a coronation.

You're right....Trump took advantage of it.......because he's smart. Probably the smartest thing he did this election.

Since we're all just posting articles, here (FINALLY!) is one about a university/college setting that in some way resonates with me.  In fact, except for the notion that he was "taught liberal values for two years", it's pretty much spot on.

I've ranted against the media on here a number of times, so I'll just say this.  There is a place for opinion journalism.  But it's place is very small and should be very rare.  Beyond the editorial page of a newspaper or the brief television editorial/commentary at the end of a broadcast, I'd argue that it has no real place MOST OF THE TIME in news media. 

 

There is a simple reason for this.  First, media must operate as a check on our government.  It cannot do so if each separate medium is "for" or "against" any given administration or operates as its mouthpiece, defender, or prosecutor. 

 

Second, mainstream news media must operate as a check against the excesses and massive flaws of new media.  I love the internet as much as anyone, but it falsely raises any asshole with an opinion and a $10/month hosting fee to the level of an authority.  This is not a condemnation of all new media and I do believe that new media can serve the purpose of opinion journalism, if it can be thoughtful.  But as much as I might find the occasional piece from DailyKos or, hell, even RedState to be thoughtful, there is also much more that is much less valuable and, I would argue, degrades our democracy by making it dumber and meaner.  Sadly, that goes to the Trump mouthpiece Brietbart, which will soon be running the White House.   

 

Now, all that said, when Rachel Maddow or Bill O'Reilly run an hour long program every god-damned night in which they fervently support or oppose something the President is doing, they lose all credibility.  The role of news media as impartial is important because, when there is actually a cause to stand up for some principle, they can then do so from a well established position of neutrality.  When Murrow opposes McCarthyism, he can do so as a respected newsman.  Same goes from Cronkite talking about Vietnam.  Those reports had major impacts because they had complete credibility.

 

So, being fair here to both sides, how can we take them seriously over email-gate or grab-em-by-the-pussy-gate, when they spend every night up to that point lambasting the candidate they oppose? 

 

Sadly, with the loss of the Fairness Doctrine, we've moved to non-stop opinion journalism on the cable news networks and radio broadcasts. 

 

 

Perfect example.  I can't even get past the guy's picture before he accuses Obama of "high handed arrogance" and at that point I don't' care to read any more. 

 

And damnit, get a computer.  And fuck Tapatalk, whatever the fuck that is.

This site always has great posts but this is one of the best yet. News has morphed into noise pollution and I cant hardly stand it anymore. ITs just a bunch of talking heads bitching about the trending stories of the day. If you watch it long enough, you know exactly what each panel member is going to say before they say it.

It needs to go back to something resembling the days of Brokaw, Jennings, etc. When they invite several people to participate in a discussion, make it a tad more neutral than all these hacks just trying to scream over one another. I don't know if its possible to go back to real news though...especially in this era of social media.

One thing is certain.....its time for a change. The media's handling of this election was off the rails on a crazy train.

Great article. It covers the combination of reasons she lost and why it happened instead of the horse shit "racist America" electing Trump.

Its spot on in many places and I agree that her openly pushing for conflict with Russia in Syria was a colossal mistake. I mean....who the fuck wants that? Sounds like the military was against it as well....no surprise.  Let this delusional, corrupt grandma play Civ 6 and pretend she's fighting them. Even worse was the jedi mind trick of acting like Trump was a war monger.

She basically wanted to fight WWIII in her twilight years and to hell with anyone impacted by the decision. On election night she she wouldn't even come out and address her thousands of followers who had waited hours to see her. She doesn't give a rat's patootie about anyone but herself. Her true colors showed and while Trump is probably not the next FDR or Reagan, we dodged a major bullet keeping her out of the driver's seat.

I read where she cried uncontrollably after being told she lost. Good. Its time to put the Clintons out to pasture.

 

Today I keep reading about how awful, what a nightmare, what a crisis, and all this hand wringing and shock really speaks to hubris. The democratic party loyalists tolerated the rigging of the primaries, tolerated Clinton’s lies and crimes and her war mongering. And they expected everyone else to tolerate it as well. Because, you know, Clinton is one of us.

I still can't get over those states he took. PA? Are you kidding me? That's nuts. But when thing I noticed in the last ten days of polling, almost all of those firewall state leads, fell into MOE. She had big solid leads 5-8+, but that last week they just vanished. I didn't know what to make of it, especially since I'd never seen that happen before and those states are consistently blue. Not pink...but BLUE. So in that sense, the polls were actually right. I just decided to ignore the swing states the last week because she had big leads prior.

The way it played out was very interesting. First few hours she's leading....its smooth sailing....media happy as pigs in shit. Then they were like "wait a minute....something is wrong..." That's when I got a bag of popcorn and watched history in the making. I knew he had won even when she was still technically leading in the EV count. The reaction on all media outlets said it all and when I saw those exit polls coming in, I called my aunt who is a huge Hillary supporter and spends her days whining about Trump on FB to tell her Rosie O Donnel just started singing.

Its time for the media to start calling this shit fair and square. Or start backing the candidate they hate as a jedi mind trick because the public is sick of being force fed a load of horse manure.

Flagg is right.....liberals need a new strategy. Labeling half the country as KKK members who burn crosses and hang strange fruit clearly doesn't work and played a role in getting us to this point. THey have no one to blame but themselves.

 

Anyway, after class today I had a Muslim AMERICAN student asking me whether she should fear for her safety.

As long as she acts normal she'll be ok.

If she starts in on #MuslimLivesMatter, pretends to be outraged over absolutely nothing, and wants tranny bathrooms on every street corner with glory holes pre-installed, I'd say buy a one way ticket  to  Icouldgiveafuckistan.

Another huge sign in hindsight and we pointed this out months ago. Trump had 50k people meeting him at airports and at Hillary's stops you could hear a mouse fart in the Andromeda galaxy.
