I've got a facebook friend who says they're using Joe as a scapegoat. This "friend" has been saying some pretty offensive things about other topics, such as standing by Cain, etc., as well so he appears to be in some sort of "I support all men who are accused of sexually inappropriate behavior" phase.

Scapegoat my a**! Paterno is considered THE God in parts of PA, not just A god. He had knowledge of one incident in 2002. As a former Pennsylvanian, I'm appalled.

In 6 days, 15 hours and approximately10 minutes, I'll be a married man. Can't wait.

And hopefully I'll be more sober than I am now.

Takes lots of work! Posted Image

You talking about marriage? Yes, it does, but after 30 years or so it gets a little easier. 31 years in three weeks!

Sadly, the women's movement did nursing no favor by putting down the profession like it did in its early days. The movement, in general, talked as if being a nurse were worse than being a ditchdigger. I'm all for choice, but there is nothing dishonorable about being a nurse. If you get in the right place, the money is pretty good too. One of my friend's daughters is making $37/hr at Children's Hospital in Denver. That is the equivalent of $74K/yr, and she has only been out of school about three years.

Just had to say that!

I'm assuming by "early days" you're referring to the second wave of the women's movement in the 1960s and not the first wave of the late 1800s, early 1900s. The 1960s was when the battle for access to education and the professions began in earnest and young women who were interested in health care were encouraged by the feminists to shoot higher than nursing. Unfortunately, in the process nursing got labeled "women's work." That was a touchy time for educators in nursing because a lot of them wanted to encourage women to be the most they could be while still wanting to defend and fight for fair pay for women in the nursing profession. If nurses really want to lose that "women's work" label, the real solution hasn't come yet and that's for nursing schools to get more aggressive in recruiting men into the profession---the nursing schools do a lousy job of doing that. But that would open the field up to twice the talent out there in the general population to compete for those seats in nursing classes and maybe the nursing profession itself deep down doesn't want to do that? Until the nursing field does start recruiting more men, they honestly can't keep blaming the women's movement for a 50 year old label. It's past time for them to re-brand themselves.

I just had to say that. Posted Image

Yes, those are the days of the women's movement I had in mind.

Actually, nursing has always been considered women's work, since the days of Florence Nightingale and even before that. In my mother's day (she graduated from nursing school in 1943), nursing classes were entirely female; males were not even accepted into nursing schools.

I understand the encouragement to women to go into medicine, however, to give the impression that to be a nurse is a failure was not helpful. In fact, there was a serious nursing shortage back in the late 70s. Eventually, people realized that they could make pretty good money as a nurse, and nursing became more popular again.

When only 25% of the adult population has a bachelor's degree, as is the case even today, someone with a BSN is among the well-ecducated people in this country. In fact, back in the late 60s, nurses and teachers were dominant in the educated women of the day. There are many other professions that have similar educational requirements as nursing, such as engineering and accounting, and many jobs where having a college degree in anything is the only job requirement. My brother has a BA in history and had a career in Human Resources.

I'm not in nursing education or any type of education; I don't know what is being done to recruit men into nursing. There is a major shortage of nursing faculty these days, and many nursing schools have wait lists.

Dudes, a guy that I just broke up w/like 2 months ago murdered the girl he started dating right after me. She was an MPS teacher & he stabbed her in front of her kids. You have no idea how utterly freaked out I am. I am also not that surprised, there was something off about him which is why I went w/my instincts but shit, that so easily could've been me. She wanted to end it w/him which is when he went & got his knife. I spoke to someone at the Fire & Police Commission & asked them if they needed to talk to me since we dated so recently. I think I'm in shock. I need lots of drinks, LOTS.

OMG! I don't know how to give a hug over the computer! Be glad you're not with him anymore. Good luck with everything.

Just hangin' out for the 4th. It's my younger DD's birthday, so we do have a barbecue birthday dinner planned with the usual gang of idiots, e.g. my niece/her husband, the DDs and their "significants". Then we will go to the community celebration/fireworks. I tried to get my brother (niece's father) to come out here, but he has a "fear of flying".
