I pulled a couple more crinoids this week. Same site as above. These things are rarely preserved whole like this; I happened upon a bed that had the right conditions.
They were living on a carbonate platform relatively close to shore(usually means the remains are broken up by current and wave action). An on-shore storm increased sediment inflow in the area. The critters that could move about freely(vagile) were able to escape the catastrophy, but these things were attached to the sea floor(sessile) and were stuck. Apparently, the influx of mud killed them, and then covered them up before they could dis-articulate.
