I love to play with magnets, electromagnetism, and well... all that fun stuff. I had been thinking of acquiring some neodymium magnets, and think that they too would be fun to fiddle with, but alas, I have re-thought that ideal(not really). These two were separated by about 50cm when they began their journey.
WARNING: some funky stuff ahead; avoid if you have a weak stomach.
That Sunday night I placed on of them a bit in line with one of the others but still within a safety distance (I thought) !!!
When I rotated the magnet the other raised it self upwards due to the same poles. I know that I thought (ooops ... take care) and before I knew it the one that raised itself upwards turned around and within a split second the two magnets collided to each other with the top-part of my finger between them. Due to the brutal force my finger was splashed and pushed out between the magnets leaving skin and my complete nail between the two magnets. The collision was so strong that on the carpet I found only some drops of blood spread around the magnets. Like you smash a hammer on a frikandel (is a Dutch snack, a sort of minced-meat hot dog).
End of finger and and the nail protruding from between the magnets.
The rest of the finger.

Holy Shit. If it weren't for bad luck you'd have no luck at all. Your heading for the big plastic bubble you know that.....Part Man Part Paper Mache...
You never ask a navy man if he'll have another drink, because it's nobody's goddamned business how much he's had already.

A couple of geologic maps of asteroid impact sites near here. Both are very ancient(pre-Silurian), and were classified as crypto-explosives, but it has been years since I read anything.
Jeptha Knob
the two black lines along the bottom of the map are an interstate. Very few people driving by this thing know its true origin. If it had of hit today, it would have devastated Louisville.
width about 10km
Big Sink
this one is about 4km across.

Yep, There is another one in the hills that is more recent. The city of Middlesboro(just outside the Cumberland Gap) was built in the crater of an impact. As the settlers came over the mountains, it was the first flat land that they saw, so it was settled. Hardly anyone there knows its origin as well.
This part of the country has been pummeled in the past I can think of about 5 or 6 impacts within 150 miles of here.
