Trump Wasn't in the Situation Room for Botched Yemen Raid That Killed Civilians and US Navy Seal

In Donald J. Trump's first military operation as President, a raid in Yemen, dozens of civilians (including children) and a U.S. Navy Seal were killed. U.S. military officials told Reuters that Trump approved the operation without sufficient intelligence, ground support, or adequate backup preparations. Despite all the casualties, do you know who's still at large after the strike? The intended target.

Bizarrely, Trump ordered the strike in the early morning hours last Sunday, but he wasn't in the Situation Room when it happened.

“The President was here in the residence. He was kept in touch with his national security staff,” White House spokesman Sean Spicer told reporters.

“Secretary Mattis and others kept him updated on both the raid and the death of Chief Owens as well as the four other individuals that were injured. So he was kept apprised of the situation.”

Further, the morning after the attack, the first thing Trump did was tweet angrily about the New York Times.

This is unusual for several reasons.

According to David Sanger, chief Washington correspondent for The New York Times, the President usually goes to the Situation Room and is presented with what they call a full package for the attack. “There’s a legal assessment of the legal authorities under which they’re doing these,” he told PBS.

“There’s a risk assessment to the commandos who would be doing it. There is a risk assessment of what could happen to civilians who are in the area.”

“It looks like President Trump got briefed on it, by and large, at a dinner, not in the Situation Room, not with legal advisers around."

“I think one of the questions, given how many things have gone wrong, is: would it have been different if he had been in the Situation Room and perhaps had a different set of briefings,” he added.

The presidency is not really a serious task to him...just a perk of his celebrity.

I suspect it's the only reason he ran to begin with. He wanted exposure, and never dreamed it would get this far.

So, Trump would appear to have established the strongest rapport with Trudeau, leader of Canada -- land of social medicine and soon-to-be marijuana legalization

The immigration/deportation stuff is hilarious. Absolutely no change from how it was handled under Obama. No new focus, no new parameters. No increase in deportations. But the media and left are now running these stories like it wasn't happening 2 months ago.

This is why half the country doesn't trust the press.

All propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to reach.

Demoralize the enemy from within by surprise, terror, sabotage, assassination. This is the war of the future.

From what I can find, it's been covered.  The NYT quoted it and other picked up on the quote.  The NYT realized it had made an error and corrected it.  CNN (you know, the "lame stream media") challenged Pelosi's staff regarding the quote and House Dems corrected their own mistake.

See, that's how this is SUPPOSED to work.  You make a mistake, you admit your error, and you fix it.  As opposed to our Liar-in-Chief, who will bullshit us for four years, issue conflicting tweet after conflicting tweet, and never admit any dishonesty.  When asked how the President could have faith in Flynn and then the next day have no faith in Flynn, Conway said that both were true.  It's amazing the degree of conflicting information coming out of this White House.  Even if you're not bothered by the lying, the inability to get the EOP on the same page regarding ANYTHING is incredibly troubling for the security of our country and the soundness of how our laws are enforced and our policies are enacted.

Maybe I missed it, what with the Flynn scandal, but I haven't seen much about immigration at all.

By the way, when the claim was made that Obama had been fairly tough on immigration, you argued the opposite.  Does this mean Trump is doing almost nothing?

My point was the media harps on every misquote from the Trump administration and it ends up on SNL.  Will they botox up Tina Fey to play Pelosi and have her read shit from internet forums as news?  I don't think so.

The immigration shit happened a week before Flynn.  If you missed all the front page coverage on every major news source and 300 immigrants groups crying about how Trump was breaking up families and this was the start of his round up campaign, you either weren't paying attention or you're being disingenuous because you know it's a complete farce.  It was literally the biggest story the entire week until the weekend.

And no, Obama shouldn't get kudos for deporting illegals who were convicted of felonies.  Doing the bare minimum your job requires doesn't get accolades in my world, but I know a lot of people believe kids who finish last should still get a trophy.  Trump hasn't done anything because he's been in office less than a month.  Though I guess if 1 month against 8 years is a safe analogy, Trump should be getting his noble prize in economics any day now.  Obama's numbers were inflated because they counted people they turned away at the border. If you used that method before, he'd be a lot higher.  The man let millions of people stay here, and refused to let the IRS notify people when illegals had used their SSN for identity theft.  The length you guys will go to paint Obama is a positive light is absurd.
