In this day and age of so much psy-ops and manufactured incidents, I would not put it past the Arizona couple of doing the whole thing as a planned stunt to see if they could ride the viral news wave.

Story is weird. Kid is 18 and is moving to Chicago to flip homes? Why not stay in AZ, and do it there? Move to an entire new place, that surely costs more money? And what kind of 18 yr old flips homes? Please.
