I don't know the exact figures but saw one quote of 7 million teachers/college professors in the USA. Who thinks it's a good idea if they (we in my case) all are carrying a gun in every class? think about every teacher/professor you ever had and then decide whether it's a good idea. (freedom, think about your colleagues - or maybe not, scared the hell out of me.) It's a high stress environment at times, introducing 7 million guns into classroom.....really.......no, seriously. Couldn't possibly go wrong.

Not crazy about the idea that the student complaining about a grade is packing.

I hope I'm only offending those who I want to offend.

They may have prevented it from being worse, but they hardly prevented it from happening in the first place. Across those two incidents, six people were killed and another ten injured.

I really don't understand the resistance to gun control laws. I really don't. Why would the majority of people be annoyed that they couldn't buy these assault weapons or semi automatics, whatever they are? Why be annoyed by more indepth background checks? Someone please explain this to me because it makes no sense to me.

So he stopped the kid after the crime was committed.

They arguably stopped the crime from being worse.

He stopped the kid in his car after he shoot students. I guess you could argue he was on the way to another school or to kill his Dad next? But to me, the crime had already been committed And the argument from the gun advocates is that armed civilians would cut these things short. I've yet to see that ever happening.

Look at the Ft. Hood shooting, how many people were murdered before the MP took the guy down and into custody? The guy opened fire on individuals who were undoubtedly armed and had top level gun training as well.

These shooters have the element of surprise and no amount of guns on the street can account for that. Mix in assault guns that spray bullets everywhere and you can easily have a dozen dead people before you even know what's going on.

I'm sure you've seen something shocking in real life, big or small. For me, and I'd imagine most people, with something out of the ordinary the initial reaction is to try and process WTF is going on. Unfortunately by the time you can process and react it may be too late.

I'm not arguing anything. Using a hypothetical to prove a point doesn't apply in this case. But in the Appalachia Law School link I provided, those two students certainly stopped the situation from becoming worse.

I didn't see that link and just read it now. Both students happened to be Police Officers. The certainly stopped it, but they were also highly trained, unlike the majority of most gun owners.

Using a hypothetical doesn't prove the point in that case? Please! That's the only argument you guys have for your resistance to gun control laws. Hypotheticals.

Here is the text of the NRA statement on the Connecticut school shootings, released Tuesday Dec. 18.

NRA STATEMENT

The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.
Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.

So on NPR today, they spoke w/a student in Newtown, a 15 yr old who was heading back to school. He was saying how long it was taking to get to school because the bus driver kept getting & giving hugs to people so it was taking forever to get to school & the kid was losing his patience & just wanted to get to school. This kid epitomizes the average American. Short memory, insensitive, no respect for others whatsoever.
