I have a compilation that has Rocket Man on it. Yeah its embarrassing. He sounds wasted on it and he didn't have a great voice stone cold sober. Like the Beastie Boys. Sabotage was killer. One of the best song intros ever.

I never got into that American Idol shit but Hung mania was everywhere. mainly ignored it but I like it now. The comedy value alone is priceless. I'm going to download his albums. If I won the lottery I'd pay the guy to record Chinese Democracy or at least sing it to me in person.

He would definitely make a party memorable.

All propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to reach.

Demoralize the enemy from within by surprise, terror, sabotage, assassination. This is the war of the future.

Was arguing about Van Halen a couple of weeks ago.

I can't understand why they chose that guy from Extreme to be the singer. Actually, I can't understand why those chose Sammy Hagar, but that's another argument entirely. In the argument, the question was posed: who would have been better? (as if I could not possibly think of someone better than the guy from Extreme)

After about ten seconds, I suggested Sebastian Bach. He is probably a total dick. He could, however, sing the old Van Halen songs better than the other two and could do the over-the-top frontman routine. You give him a little money, liquor, and first dibs on the groupies. In the end, it would have been better. That is why I should probably be consulted whenever Van Halen makes a big decision that impacts my opinion of them. The world would have been spared some shitty music.

Back to the Sammy Hagar aspect - if I had been consulted prior to that, the world would have been spared musical spin-offs, as well as hot sauce and god knows what else the man has decided to sell. One day he will be on QVC. Mark my words.

^ Sammy was a rebound thing. He was everything Roth was not. He could sing in standard E tuning, could play guitar if Eddie wanted to play keys, and was relatively mentally stable. Eddie fell hard.

There's a brilliant reason why Van Halen asked for a bowl of M&Ms with all the brown candies removed before every show

High-profile musicians make all sorts of wild demands about their backstage set-ups at concerts: Kanye West reportedly requires a barber's chair. Mariah Carey insists on two vases of white roses.

Rock band Van Halen had one of the most oddly specific requests of all: a bowl of M&M candies, with all the brown ones removed. For years, it was seen as complete folly — the band was making a ridiculous demand of concert organizers simply because they could get away with it.

But the seemingly ludicrous request was actually a shrewd business move. (We were reminded of it while reading Ian Parker's excellent profile of New York Times food critic Pete Wells in the New Yorker; he mentions the Van Halen M&M episode in passing.)

The band's concert rider indeed had a clause saying there could be no brown M&Ms in the backstage area, or the promoter would forfeit the entire show at full price.

As lead singer David Lee Roth explained in a 2012 interview, the bowl of M&Ms was an indicator of whether the concert promoter had actually read the band's complicated contract.

"Van Halen was the first to take 850 par lamp lights — huge lights — around the country,"Roth said. "At the time, it was the biggest production ever." In many cases, the venues were too outdated or inadequately prepared to set up the band's sophisticated stage.

"If I came backstage, having been one of the architects of this lighting and staging design, and I saw brown M&Ms on the catering table, then I guarantee the promoter had not read the contract rider, and we would have to do a serious line check" of the entire stage setup, Roth said.

The brown M&Ms demand is a great rock 'n' roll legend — but the truth is far more interesting.

I listened to a great interview with Wolfie on Howard Stern today. Very impressive young guy. They played a clip of this song and all Stern could talk about was how important it was to watch the video with it. (Have a hanky handy)

One interesting thing was that they were in talks to do a tour named "The Kitchen Sink" which would bring Michael back on bass, have Wolfie's band open and then showcase Dave and Sammy as the singers. I guess this was discussed as far back as 2017. Crazy stuff.
