His voice seemed to fit. What was the main problem in the end? The energy was just wrong? Square peg in a round hole? What?
VH3 wasn't a very good record. There were some interesting parts of songs and a few songs that could have been really good had they been arranged better. The sound/mixing didn't help matters either.
Why do you read that kind of crap, Art? Seriously, I don't get it.

Good news regarding Van Halen’s upcoming album – as of a little over three weeks ago, the band has finished mixing the album. The rumor that the mixing process was taking overly long isn’t true, as the mixing began in July and was finished in August.
The album is to be mastered in mid-September. This process should only take around a weeks time, so the album should be 100% completed sometime this month! There is still no word on a definite release date.
Stay tuned to VHND.com for a more extensive update within a few days.

From MELODICROCK.com:
VAN HALEN BAN BAD KARAOKE VERSION OF JUMP:
With nothing better to do (like release an album, or set up a tour), Van Halen have instead spent time getting a "bad" karaoke version of their hit Jump removed from an upcoming new episode of An Idiot Abroad. The show's producer Ricky Gervais comments to The Sun, speaking at the launch of the new Sky1 series An Idiot Abroad: The Bucket List:
"The show, devised by Ricky and comedy partner Stephen Merchant, features their pal Karl Pilkington,38, being sent to undertake a list of challenges you should do beforeyou die. One of them is to perform with an American Glee-style chorusclub. Karl sang Jump by rockers Van Halen. But his rendition was so bad the band tried to BAN it from beingbroadcast. Ricky said Karl was shaking before the performance andmessed up the words. Ricky added: "Van Halen are trying to put astop on it, because it is that bad. But Sky have got a blanketagreement so we can put it out in England. But we can't put it out inAmerica or on the DVD."
Sad. No sense of humor at all...

VHND has been hearing some solid info from our trusted sources, and it’s all wonderful news!
Van Halen has recently signed with Interscope Records (not Columbia Records as rumors stated). The album is 100% done and in the can, and fans will have it in their hands early next year. The release date is set in stone and is top secret, but will be announced very soon.
In fact, the Grammys are hinting strongly that Van Halen will make their announcement at the Grammy Nominations Concert held in Los Angeles on November 30th. Fans will be able to watch the announcement live on CBS.
