This remake actually intrigues me. Not a huge fan of the remake trend and would prefer they do remakes of obscure horror classics, but this could be interesting if done properly. Freddy was originally a child killer, so if they go the half prequel/half remake route, this could be a dark and disturbing film.
They could simply make it a more drama/psychological film with elements of horror added.
Of course they'll fuck it up and turn it into a pile of shit.
Surprise, surprise, surprise!

Me neither...
I once saw an interview with Denzel Washington, about his role in the redone Manchurian candidate.
Can't find a YouTube of it, or the exact quote, but he roughly said:
"Well, I haven't seen the original, so I don't consider it a remake."
Again, not an exact quote I'm sure, but you don't need the exact quote to sense the stupidity in it. Can you imagine some fucker saying "well, I've never seen Star Wars, so I don't consider it a remake" and then starring as Han Solo or something?

They need to let the classics rest in peace.
My opinion varies. If the movie is based on literature, then I'm much more accepting of a "remake"....a different approach to the same material, in other words.
But a movie that was written primarily for the screen...well, that's just a rip off, if you ask me.
On another note, here's a random thought...has there ever been a remake of a sequel? Like...what if somebody remade Godfather II, but not the original? Wouldn't it be hilarious to see some random remake of Weekend at Bernie's 2 pop up outta nowhere!

Also, my big issue with remakes is they're often efforts to just add a bunch of effects to the same story. God forbid that acting carry the film.

I meant strictly horror movies.
Like with the Halloween remake, they turned Michael from a bad ass psycho kid into a trailer trash psycho kid.
