I think companies realize that they can't beat Apple's iPad going head to head. Amazon realizes that a better play is the smaller form factor tablets that Apple has refused to make. And Amazon is like Apple with a built-in store for content, unlike all the computer hardware manufacturers who are getting killed in the tablet race.
