There should be a punishment for linking Alex Jones.  But I did enjoy this quote, which makes no mention of the effect of forcing the poor, usually minorities, out of their communities:

Yeah, I'm a pretty open minded person and I don't get this stuff.  Norms overwhelmingly guide our social interactions.  They're based in doing what the overwhelming majority of people find appropriate and acceptable.  Note that I said overwhelming majority.  This isn't 51/49 or even 70/30...we're talking 95/5 or higher.  So if you expect society to suddenly deviate from all norms of social interaction because those norms don't fit a very tiny minority of people and aren't accepted by another small number of people who aren't actually affected, then you need a damn good reason.  But given that there is no actual damage being done, so much as the perceived damage to mental well-being, it is nonsense to suggest that we all change how we interact.  When I stood up for marriage equality, that's because there was an actual, legal right being denied a group.  In this case, that simply doesn't exist.  If anything trans rights are moving along faster due to the victories of the gay rights movement, and some norms will change as a result.  But I don't expect that pronouns, of all fucking things for the love of God, will be one of them.  If 95 percent of people can be adequately described as he or she and aren't bothered by us doing so, then change will not happen and there is no reason for said change.  If you are personally bothered by being called he or she, then step up and tell someone you prefer to be called something else. 

 

The idea that I should get four new classes of 30-40 students every four months and be forced to ask and remember what 120 new people want to be called OTHER than by their name is in-fucking-sane.  Let me give you a parallel example.  At the beginning of a new term I do NOT go around to each student to ask about any physical or learning disabilities that they have that need addressing.  Why?  Well, first, most of them would wonder why I was asking, since most do not have these disabilities.  On the other hand, for the students who do (about one/class) and who require special testing accommodations, etc. it is their responsibility to inform the instructor.  And do you know how many of these disabled students have complained that I didn't ask them first?  NOT A GOD DAMNED SINGLE ONE OF THEM.  They realize that their situation isn't the norm and that I can't be expected to know about it.  Because living with a disability is a REAL problem, whereas living with pronoun confusion is a fiction in that it is not a problem but the tiniest of concerns that can be remedied by having a two minute conversation, one-on-one.

 

Once upon a time, if you were different you got used to the questions, the stares, and you developed a thick skin.  My rule of thumb on taking offense is to ask: "Did that person actually MEAN to be offensive?"  If not, let it slide or explain your position. 

 

In other words, I support the "Your Majesty" kid...

 

I think I would use the royal "We" and ask to be referred to as "thou".

I've been using duckduckgo a lot more frequently lately. Takes awhile to get used to not simply googling everything. I downloaded Brave when it was mentioned on evo but I've always been a huge fan of firefox.

 

I don't like social media but I am glad some legitimate alternatives are popping up. All this shit is getting out of hand.
