Bad Lieutenant - pretty cool film. Nic Cage was surprisingly awesome. Needed more Val Kilmer.

The Replacements - If Only You Were Lonely If only I were a single, alcoholic bar singer, so I could dedicate this song to a different lady each night...

I think I definitely want Here Comes A Regular by The Replacements. What you having?

He reminds me more of Frankenstein in Death Race 2000. More man than machine.

I'd like to think if he took it off, his head would just fall apart.

#39367 Songs to play at your funeral

Posted by Abaddon on 18 February 2011 - 10:58 AM in The Amphitheater

I just don't ponder about these things, I guess.

My son does though. He's already told me and his BF that he wants the Spice Girls played....and lots of glitter and sparkles. Yes. And to be wrapped in a sheet and buried under the apple tree in the yard. And if the house is sold to a franchise, then he wants the spot to remain - tree and all. I'm all for that.

When I was a teenager, I had my whole funeral planned out. Five songs in total. Can't remember the lot, but I was going to be wheeled in to the Russian national anthem, not because I'm Russian or anything, but because 1) it's an awesome anthem and I like its grandeur 2) it'd amuse me to think of everyone sat there wondering why the fuck I was coming in to some random national anthem.

Then at some point I was going to have a really long song, like the 16-minute version of The End by The Doors, or the full 22-minute version of Autobahn by Kraftwerk, again because I think it'd be funny just to make everyone sit there for ages.

And I was also going to have Ain't It Fun by The Dead Boys, which I might well still have, but I don't think it fits me as much now I'm a responsible, soon-to-be-married office manager with a mortgage.

Hey! I just posted a video of the Red Army Chorus doing the Russian NA somewhere else here. And congratulations on soon to be married!

Cheers! A version by the Red Army Chorus was actually what I was thinking of. The only national anthem I've ever listened to as if it's any other song - great stuff!

When I hear New Orleans funeral, all that springs to mind is this:

Not a bad note to go out on...

#39724 Sex Addiction

Posted by Abaddon on 22 February 2011 - 04:37 PM in Main

I wish there was a way to have an orgasm for say...5-6 hours non stop.

Too much?

Just ask Sting. He's into all that tantric shit.

Seriously though, six hours might be a little excessive. I'm all for a good long orgasm, but I draw the line at cumming in a woman so long it bleeds out of her eyeballs.

Actually, that's a lie. I'd just worry about finishing up looking like one of the victims of the salt monster in Star Trek.

#39726 The all new extra sticky book thread

Posted by Abaddon on 22 February 2011 - 04:43 PM in Main

Just finished up White Slave, Marco Pierre White's (ghost-written) autobiography. It was as dull and lifeless as most ghost-written books, but some of the info in there was interesting. I'm food mad and I love hearing about top chefs, so I lapped up all the stuff to do him working in three-star Michelin kitchens, and building his own legendary restaurant, and training Gordon Ramsay. All the stuff about his personal life, I skipped. Might blow through Ramsay's biog in a similar fashion this week.

#39730 Libya

Looks like a civil war's gonna go down. Apparently the Warfala tribe has declared war and is trying to get others to join in. Not looking good. Be interesting to see where this all ends. A few weeks back, I don't think anyone could've predicted how much it was going to kick off. Anybody want to have a guess at how many dictatorships will fall in the Middle East by the end of this year? And how many of them will be replaced by genuine democratic governments as opposed to just a different bunch of tyrants?

^ ^ Homemade?.

Yup. Never really buy ready meals - too expensive/disgusting, and no fun to make.

I bet several regimes will change. But I don't see any of them establishing a true democracy with civil rights and egalitarian principles. It'll go from one tyrant to the next. These people have shown time and time again they will vote in religious fundamentalist when given the chance. When 80% of a population supports stoning, you have a serious problem.

I don't think you can tar them all with the same brush. There's countries in the Middle East/North Africa where religious fundamentalists wouldn't really stand a chance - and that includes Libya. It's got more in common with Cuba than it does with say, Iran.

But I fear you're probably right about the tyrant side of things, religious or not.

#39821 Guns N' Roses

Posted by Abaddon on 23 February 2011 - 05:22 PM in The Amphitheater

he is a cool guy,and if any of the rumours concerning DJ are true..I'm sorry but DJ deserves a huge slice of the GnR pie...kids is amazing..his stage presence alone rivals Axl's and I would pay to see DJ before Id pay to see Ron...and that is not undermining his talent or genius..just DJ has it goin on..incredible guitarits AND showman..my two cents

I'm with you Lisa. I think DJ's amazing. Thal's always seemed like a good guy, but I don't think he adds much to the band. He's a mile behind Buckethead musically and is just a bit dull, at least relative to the other lead guitarists Guns have had. He's always felt to me like more of a stand-in session musician than a fully fledged band member.

Bit harsh on Rick to say he only ever had one hit song. He had several other top tenners in the UK, and Together Forever was number one in the US.

I grew up listening to my parents' music. Or at least, what would have been my parents' music if they were cool.
