#75208 USA Election thread

Posted by PERM BANNED on 06 March 2017 - 02:03 PM in News, Current Events, Politics

Could be some 400 pound guy in his bed somewhere...

If we're going that extreme, it could be spiders from Mars.  But if it's remotely true, it means some intelligence agent did it and I don't see a 400 lb fat man being able to pull that off from his bed.

How can you celebrate intelligence agents leaking info, and not at least accept the possibility one of them would bug a site?

I'm not saying one way or the other.  I doubt Obama personally ordered Trump bugged like Watergate, but I also would have bet my life Comey wouldn't have released that letter to Congress without something of value.  I was 100% wrong on the latter, so I could be wrong about the former too.  But since all of these agents looking to make friends with the media have yet to provide a single smoking gun, I'm inclined to believe if there was actual evidence of collusion among Trump's campaign, something would have come out by now.

I agree the media is going too far.  Couch-gate was fucking stupid.  I can't imagine why anyone cares.  At times like that, i try to remember that the media is there to make money, not to support the public interest, and that's just dump sensationalist garbage.  But I would imagine their overreach is a response to the extent to which they've been villainized over the last few weeks.  "Enemy of the people" and all that.

RE; Russia and Sessions, I have no problem with a sitting Senator meeting with foreign officials.  I take issue with lying about it under oath.  Keep in mind that some of these are the same people who impeached Clinton for lying under oath ABOUT A BLOWJOB, and Sessions is lying under oath about something related to the integrity of our elections.

And while the left is undoubtedly overreacting, which is what the left does, it is, first and foremost, reacting.  Before the left can go crazy, repeatedly and often, Trump has to do things that make them crazy, which he does, repeatedly and often.  Whether it's having a white nationalist in the White House, colluding with Russia, or just lying his face off each and every day, I would attribute both the media and the left's hysterics, first and foremost, to Trump as the most unusual and chaotic president we've ever seen.

I don't believe he lied under oath.  He was asked by Franken in the context of election collusion, if he ever met with Russian agents.  In that capacity, Sessions said no, the exact same excuse being given by Pelosi on why she didn't "lie."  Sessions met with the ambassador twice, once after a speech at the RNC in public where he shook his hand, and once in a public meeting at his office with non-partisan congressional aides in attendance.  This wasn't some off the record, secret meeting in a hangar.  It was public knowledge and on his official calendar.  If that qualifies as a coverup or a conspiracy in the eyes of democrats, why didn't a single one call for Lynch to recuse herself after her secret meeting with Clinton?

Trump could have had a 3 way with Putin and handed over the launch codes while doing a line of coke off Kim Jong Un.  But we'd never know because everyday another stupid story is breaking news and the story of yesterday is quickly forgotten.  Notice how no one has made a peep about the piss tapes or the collusion claimed by the British agent?  The comments made to Mexico?  Conway's endorsement in whatever the hell Ivanka is hawking?  All forgotten.

It's not the end of the world.  I can only wish its the end of the public supporting our pathological-liar-in-chief.

Well that's the problem, right?  The left screams "Armageddon" every day on something new, so discerning what is really worrying and what isn't has become a challenge.  The media has become completely unhinged and now writes stories because someone had their feet on a couch.  I guess running a story about Trump meeting with the leaders of Historically Black Colleges didn't fit the narrative.  Sessions, in his capacity as a Senator, met with the same people Pelosi and Schumer met with as legislators.  Pelosi calls for Sessions' resignation for "lying", then we find out she "lied" about meeting with the same ambassador evidenced in a photo.  Then all of a sudden the context matters.  I'm just fed up with it and personally think they're just throwing everything at the wall and hoping something will stick.  So far, nothing has.

All norms have been done away with. I have no idea what occurred. But if Obama believed he could assasinate a US citizen, people can't pretend a Nixonian style bugging isn't possible. Then again, if they did tap his offices, someone gave them probable cause. But we also no how little that means in the secret courts that bless off on this.

Trump could be off his meds seeing ghosts. Totally could have been surrogates for Clinton trying to even the score. Could be Putin. None of us have a clue, so I'm not going to scream it's the end of the world and the biggest story since yesterday.

Of course I don't.  But if someone on the right made that comment, Pelosi and Schumer would be out front dressed in white demanding a blood sacrifice.

Is everyone else enjoying the political hypocrisy as much as I am?

Obama gives good speeches, "he's all talk"; Trump gives one ok speech without acting like a complete asshole, "he's presidential"

Loretta Lynch met with Bill Clinton while Hillary was under investigation; Jeff Sessions met with the Russian ambassador in an election in which the Trump campaign received Russian assistance

Hillary Clinton had a private email server through which she did government business; Mike Pence apparently ran the state of Indiana through an AOL account

First, how fucking funny is it that Mike Pence is on AOL.  I didn't know that AOL still existed.  That was the kind of internet access we had at my house back in the 90s.

But while the above aren't always equal (except perhaps the speech one), I am enjoying the blatant hypocrisy.  What's the over/under on the Trump admin matching in its first year the total sum of scandals Obama had in eight years?  Hell, we might already be there.

I still use my AOL account as my primary email, and I'm a so called security expert.

If you don't make a distinction between Sessions meeting publicly and formally with someone he's supposed to meet with, and Lynch having a secret meeting with the husband of someone under investigation, I don't know what to tell you.  If you don't make a distinction between someone breaking the law by putting classified information on an external, unsecure network, I don't know what to tell you.  These are valid distinctions.  And not a single Democrat came out asking Lynch recuse herself after the meeting.  If you don't see the hypocrisy in that, I don't know what to tell you.

I'm gonna have to trek to Chicago...that probably means they're in Cleveland, too.

Nope, Toronto is the closest for me, followed by Philly.  I don't think I'll be making that trip.

I just don't care about Syria or the Ukraine.  I'm not willing to risk my life or others so some Syrian too craven to fight can maybe return home after a vacation in Europe.  Crimea was culturally Russian, and was "gifted" to Ukraine when it was a Soviet State.  I don't agree with anything Putin has done and believe a response is appropriate.  But to me that response involves sanctions and deployment of NATO troops to the border to stop further aggression.   The half of the country demanding action right now would sooner eat dog shit than serve in the military and coincidentally, wants to increase other people's taxes to pay for their pet projects.  A bunch of fickle, reality TV watchers who aren't willing to give up a copper to make their plans manifest are the last people whose opinions we should be considering.  The way this country turned in Iraq left a taste in my mouth I'll never forget.

This may come as a shock to you, but I have a lot of issues with Conservative orthodoxy. Hillary was already being vilified and the speakers correctly predicted she'd run in 2008. The war in Iraq was weeks away and a bunch of dipshits were celebrating the idea, but none felt the need to head to a recruiter to fight for what they believe. Group think drives me crazy and people who are unable to explain why they support a position drive me crazy more than any other.

CPAC was when I realized people I agree with can be just as "stupid" as people I disagree with. I didn't like the cheerleader atmosphere and the fact so many weren't interested in engaging opinions different than their own.

I learned the worst question I could ask was "why?" A bunch of drunk college republicans hooking up after just ranting against the evils of abortion kind of put it in perspective for me for the first time.

I went to CPAC in 2003. Experience changed my whole perspective an really forced me to start re-evaluating my beliefs.

The adaptations are not as good when go too far afield from the source material.

I thought the best adaptation yet was The Stand miniseries they did in the early 90s with Gary Sinise and Molly Ringwold.

#75102 Spice Girls / Metallica Thread, Formerly Spice Girls Copying Gnr Reunion??

Posted by PERM BANNED on 17 February 2017 - 12:00 PM in The Amphitheater

First, bump.  Because,  you know, they're spicy.  PLEASE TELL ME WE HAVE NEW SPICE GIRLS NEWS!

But my real comment is that Metallica seems to be following the GNR model with their tour.  Looks like fewer dates, bigger stadiums (rather than arenas, which they hit a lot of last time out).

Yea, I just bought tickets to see them in Philly.  Very excited.  Haven't seen them live since Cincinatti in 09

Watched the TV 11/22/63. Interesting but modified from the book which was great.

Yea, i liked it, but the book was so damn good, I read it twice.  I loved when he met Richie and Bev right after they battled Pennywise in 57. The Mr Mercedes trilogy was good, interested to see how that tv convserion turns out.  I have incredibly low expectations for the Dark Tower movie, especially since they cut out Eddie and Susanah and are having it take place in Lud.
