#54121 Zombie thread

Posted by Abaddon on 16 October 2011 - 01:15 PM in Silver Screen

World War Z could've been interesting if they'd stuck to the documentary format of the book. Instead, it looks like they're just going to make it into a standard zombie movie. Shame.

Not watched Wrestlemania since Benoit won the title, although I caught the first Michaels-Undertaker match a few years back. Downloaded this weekend's show on a whim. Don't really follow wrestling much, but I heard Taker-HHH was very good, so decided to give it a look. Will watch this weekend.

#49890 Woody Allen

Well, with Jackson the burden of proof wasn't met, but I'm convinced that he diddled little boys. So, yes. Polanski? Absolutely. Pee Wee? Didn't he just get caught "pulling" it in a movie theater? If so, he is ok. And I have no clue about Ferris Bueller??? I haven't seen the movie or know who stars in it.

Jeffrey Jones, who plays the headmaster trying to catch Ferris skiving from school (and also has quite a big role in Deadwood, if you've seen that), has been convicted of several child sex offences.

From his Wikipedia profile:

In 2001, Jones was charged with selling cigarettes and trafficking marijuana to minors. He was fined $5,000 and sentenced to 100 hours of community service.[4]

In 2003, Jones was arrested for soliciting a 14-year-old boy to pose for sexually explicit photographs and possession of child pornography. The misdemeanor possession charge was dropped after Jones pleaded Nolo contendere to inducing a minor to pose for sexually explicit photographs; he was sentenced to five-years probation, ordered to undergo counseling, and required to register as a sex offender for life.[5]

In 2004[6] and 2010, Jones was arrested for failing to update his sex offender registration. On September 28, 2010, Jones was sentenced to three years probation and 250 hours of community service.[1]

#41514 Woody Allen

Allen at his best is an amazing thing - but he can be a bit hit and miss. Annie Hall and Manhattan are both fantastic. Really enjoyed Bullets Over Broadway as well. But I haven't been a big fan of the other stuff of his I've seen. Zelig was impressive, but really dull.

Whoever did the draw for this year was having a laugh - Isner and Mahut drawn together again! I'd say it's unlikely they'll beat their record. One of my favourite bits of trivia is that they played more games in that single match than Serena Williams did in Wimbledon, the US Open, the Australian Open and the French Open combined in the year she did the Grand Slam.

Having Chinese takeaway tonight, but dreaming of a barbecue. The sun's been shining the last few days, and I could smell someone cooking sausages on my way home - BBQ season is about to start! Posted Image

After mulling it over for the last three years or something ridiculous, I've finally set up a food blog:

http://foodstotrybef....wordpress.com/

Still very early days and lots to do to it, but getting there bit by bit. Having a lot of fun. Off out for a meal tonight and very much looking forward to reviewing it afterwards.

I've been meaning to give the beer can thing a try, but I've always done well enough out of a crushed, quartered lemon, so not sure whether it's worth the bother. If I'm really in the mood for a perfect chicken, I'll slow-cook it.

I'm in love with my new Le Creuset casserole. Had lot of fun with it in the last couple of days cooking one-pot meals which seem to come out a thousand times better than they used to (the washing up after is a million times better as well). Honey mustard chicken thighs with parsnips last night, and mustard apple pork chops tonight. There's something very satisfying about making something that requires minimal effort but still comes out great.

Barbecue season is underway! Had some friends around yesterday and did some burgers, sausages and chicken legs. Always seem to start off with super basic fair for some reason, and as the weeks go on, then I start breaking out the marinades and cook some really good stuff. Planning to do a roast on it today. Also had smores for the first time.

Meh, decided not do with a roast and went with mackerel instead. Did a nice chilli and ginger dressing to go with it, and barbecued some asparagus.

How was the pork BJ? I'm going Jamaican tonight with some curry goat. Or at least I would be if the butcher had any goat or mutton in. So I'm just doing the exact same recipe with casserole steak. Having it with rice and plantain. Should be good.

I'm eating chicken wings right now. You've got about 10 minutes to get across the Atlantic and join me before I go to bed.

Just finished eating the chicken wings. You can't beat cold takeaway for breakfast.

I love eating out, and I think there's not much better than a great meal with excellent service. But on the flipside, there's not much worse than a terrible meal with shitty service. I do a lot of reading up on restaurants before going, to try to avoid ending up at a dud. But it's impossible to completely avoid a bad meal. Have had some real crap at supposedly good places in my time. Sorry you had such a shit night!

Run into an issue with my deep-fat fryer - the handle on the basket's broken, which pretty much puts it out of action. Suppose it's not too big a deal to replace it. But it means no more chips until it's sorted out.

Whenever I go out and get drunk now, I always find myself saving most of my takeaway for breakfast the next day. It's awesome. Just about to go out now for a very swish meal.

What's the proper way to cook it?

I meant cooked well, rather than there being one specific way.

This is the method I've had the most success with:

http://www.guardian....ey-matthew-fort

But there are plenty of other ways.

If I ate that while hungover I'd toss my cookies.

I remember years ago I worked as waiter in this Creole restaurant in Ybor City. I had a buddy of mine who shucked the oysters and he was always sliding me one to slurp down. This particular morning, maybe 10 am or so, I came strolling in for my lunch shift still drunk/hungover and my buddy says "Want an oyster?" Without thinking about my condition I took it and sucked it down....omg, it took everything I had in me not to barf all over the place, hahaha. I made it though....BARELY.

That's brutal. Oysters are not hangover food!

Shrimp with a dash of tobasco on the other hand...
