The comments are great. "Fascism" of course rears its head. I don't think anyone knows what fascism is, anymore, but I guess when you've screamed socialism and communism until no one cares, you have to lean on something else. I also like the one that refers to black people as the left's "pet project".

^Bonus points for Morlocks reference.
Who, me? I haven't even read The Time Machine...saw the movie, though. What's it got to do with my comment?

Not you, it was in another comment on the story. The comments started at fascism and went out from there.

Oberlin Is An Insane Asylum
#iThing #word
Oberlin has always been a little out there. My alma mater is in the same conference and essentially the exact opposite of what I read here.
Of course, the author's goal is to conflate the students' over-the-top liberalism and their massive sense of entitlement, as if one (liberalism) is the cause of the other (entitlement) which, in my experience of university teaching, is not the case. Oberlin has a very liberal reputation so I'm guessing that conservative students are less likely to apply as a consequence. This has the unfortunate effect of making the university an ideological echo chamber which most of us in academia would argue is harmful to effective discourse.
But the sense of entitlement is common, even when the university has a healthy mix of values. I had a conservative student go on a religiously driven anti-gay rant and also tell me that "I get time and a half on exams". It's amusing and discouraging how many of them can write a paper bashing welfare or affirmative action and not take note of the special benefits they receive.
But I think we can look at a number of things for the cause of a societal problem, starting with parents who believe their kids are super special and perfect and technology that encourages narcissism and self-absorption, rather than cooperation and legitimate self-reflection. All of that begins well before a child has an ideology.
